One’ula Album

Many of these ancient Hawaiian sites were destroyed in 1998 by Haseko in the construction of the 'Ewa Marina and Ocean Pointe housing development in ’Ewa Beach.O'ahu. With the exception of the single heiau, all others were described by the archaeologist as "temporary habitations." Originally, over 400 features existed in this vast complex, the very last stretch of original coastline on O'ahu containing large numbers of fishing shrines. One heiau and the structures at area 4278 remain, but all others were bulldozed. The shoreline will become the entrance to the marina, destroying rich fishing grounds and a traditional place for the gathering of limu (seaweed).
